Across the nation, public health professionals continue to face exhaustion, burnout, and moral injury. According to the 2024 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS) from deBeaumont, 71% of state and local public health workers are experiencing at least one symptom of burnout, with 20% experiencing near-constant symptoms. Despite this, the survey shows that more public health professionals want to stay at their health departments than in previous years, with three in four saying they intend to stay in the next year.
